I would like the "Bookmarks" icon (with a drop-down arrow) to fit on the Navigation Bar.

Since the text "bookmarks" appears next to the icon, the icon plus the text drops down to the next row - the Bookmarks Toolbar. I start by clicking on customize and then drag the bookmarks icon with the drop-down arrow over to where I like it, to the left of the address bar. It looks fine while in "customize mode" but as soon as I click 'Done", the icon moves down to the next row, on the Bookmarks Toolbar, and has the text "bookmarks" along side of the icon - so, as a result it will not fit on the Navigation Bar. I have tried various other icons after I clicked 'customize' and put them in the same location. None take the text with them. All of them are just the icon. Only the "Bookmarks" icon has the text also. How can I have just the icon so it will fit next to the "back" button, the "home" button - which I prefer to be grouped together on the left side of the Address Bar. But, no matter where I put the "bookmarks" icon - it includes the text.

thanks for the explanation - so I guess this solves it, even if it makes no sense.

How would anyone put together that having a visible bookmarks toolbar would somehow be connected to this icon's placement - and one spot w/o text and the other with it??. .. and, why is hiding the bookmarks menu appealing? .....with the new Firefox button at the top, you have click, slide down, slide over, and over and then down to get to a bookmark, and if you slide a little too much, you have to start over again. I'll just put back the menu toolbar so bookmarks are right there with easy access.

thanks for explaining this nonsensical design to me :)

You only see the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop marker on the Navigation Toolbar if the menu bar and the Bookmarks Toolbar are hidden. If the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible then the Bookmarks Menu button will appear on that toolbar.
