got the same problem .. checked the firewalls but cant see anything amiss there. it happens with internet explorer too!
please help.. ive got an important deadline to meet and u cant do my research:(

I've been having this problem for a while, ever since 6.0.1. I don't get any error or other messages, though. Firefox freezes and I have to kill it.
I tried starting in Safe Mode and that made no difference. Another installation on another PC doesn't seem to have the same problem. I'm about to save my profile, uninstall and completely reinstall Firefox. If that doesn't work, I'll probably use Chrome to get to Google (silly as that is) and wait for the next updated of FF.
OK, so I uninstalled and reinstalled a fresh copy of FF 6.0.2. I haven't added any extensions or themes, and FF still hangs when I try to go to google sites (main page, mail.google.com, maps.google.com). No crash report, no window asking if I want to send a crash report.
Enough for now.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.

Firefox won't work but Chrome works fine. This is about the third time this has happened.
I have the same problem with two laptops. One is on Vista and one is on 64 bit Windows 7. Internet Explorer and Chrome work fine but Firefox gets the error message above. Generally retrying 2 or 3 times will bring up the Google search screen.
