Firefox does not delete those items, but will disable any that are not compatible; the developer of the add-ons, like the Avast toolbar, determine with which versions of Firefox they are compatible and only the developer can change that. Avast has apparently not updated their toolbar (the rest of Avast should still be working in the background to protect your system). Mozilla has worked very hard to get the security/security suite vendors to update their toolbars and any of their other add-ons for Firefox, but some security vendors do not seem to care that their users are frustrated and angry. Contact Avast to inquire as to their plans to update their add-ons for Firefox. Other important programs? Names? We will offer whatever advice that we can if you will provide the names. It is not suggested that you re-install version 5.0.1 of Firefox as Firefox 6.0 replaces that version and corrects some security issues with Firefox 5.0.1 and that old version of Firefox will not be updated for those issues.
