How do I restore saved mail files from a deleted account
I have what should be a pretty simple question. 1. I deleted my Tbird POP acct because it stopped working. 2. I reinstalled it. 3. My saved mail folders were gone. 4. Is it possible to get them back? 5. * This question is for someone other than David. 6. I just want to get my old saved folders back into my reinstalled account. 7. It's been about five days since this all took place. 8.The version I deleted was a the previous release.

1. That probably wasn't necessary, and if you delete a POP3 account, you are in danger of losing your saved messages unless you are careful. IMAP is safer in this regard.
2. You reinstalled what? The Thunderbird program? Or you set up the account again?
3. When you delete an account, you are asked whether or not you want to "Remove message data". How did you answer that question? If you chose to remove it, it's gone forever, unless you had previously made a backup of your Thunderbird Profile. Such regular backups are recommended if your saved email is valuable.

8. Now I'm confused again. Did you delete your POP3 email account within Thunderbird, or did you "delete" the program?
My internet is provided by T-Mobile on Windows 11. .it looks like my current version is 140.15Oesr although I'm being told to update to 153.2.Oesr on Windows 11 1. I tried reinstalling the IMAP but Tbird kept downloading email without my permission. Dave said IMAP does that and I can't completely control auto downloads. So I reinstsalled POP service. 2. I reinstalled the yahoo account within Tbird. 3. I blew right past the question of "Remove Message Data" and don't even remember it. I was pretty aggravated by that time. My guess is that I deleted it all. 4. Gone 5. Dave would probably have refused it anyway. 8. I deleted the account within Tbird. I have another GMail account that I didn't do anything with. The Yahoo account is the one I was having trouble with.
So my question would be in the event that my folders are gone 1. How do I get that data from my travel computer as that computer has much of what was important on my primary laptop. 2. I have Tbird on both.
Assuming the messages you want to copy to the new computer were either from a POP3 account or/and Local folders, I would copy those files from the old computer to the new and import them using the add-on "ImportExportTools NG" (https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools-ng/).
- On the travel computer, start Thunderbird, go to <Help | Troubleshooting Information | Profile Folder> and click the "Open Folder" button.
- Close Thunderbird.
- You want to copy the entire "Mail" folder to the new computer. You can copy that folder to a transfer device like a thumb drive.
- On the target computer, copy the "Mail" folder to a convenient temporary location (Desktop?)
- (Note that when you examine the contents of the Mail folder, you will see several sub-folders, each representing a POP3 account, plus one called "Local Folders.)
- In Thunderbird on the target computer, create a new Local Folder called "Imported Mail" (or whatever you want.)
- Right-click on that folder and choose <ImportExportTools NG | IMport mbox files | All mbox files from directory (with sbd structure>. Navigate to and enter the temporary folder on Windows Desktop you created earlier.
- Select one of the folders you wish to import and click Select Folder. The folder and its contents will now import into your current Thunderbird local folder.
- Repeat the last two steps for every folder you want to import.
You will now have all your old POP and Local Folders in your current Thunderbird profile's Local Folders where they can be organized to your liking.
Lin, Thank you! I can only hope that this will work but I can't get to it for a while to try it out. I'm not sure what's up with my Tbird but this morning it took almost ten minutes to download my email from yahoo. I am suspecting yahoo now. But I'd given up on it when it suddenly popped up out of nowhere. Scared the hell out of me.
