Can I empty my own trash folder?

I used to be able to empty my trash folder, but now messages are being deleted automatically with in a few days or less.. I have gone to properties in both of the "trash" folders that appear on the left of my screen and the "do not delete any messages" is clearly checked in the retention policy.

What is your account type - POP or IMAP?

Under account settings in server settings it says IMAP mail server

In Account Settings > Server Settings under 'Message Storage' Is the 'Empty Deleted folder on exit' checkbox selected ? If yes, then uncheck that checkbox and click on 'OK

Have you accessed the webmail account using a browser and emptied the Trash folder ? Is there is a setting in the webmail account which can choose to empty automatically every x days?

Have you accessed the imap email address of account via another computer or perhaps a phone and emptied the Trash folder ?

No, that checkbox is not selected.
