Advise regarding amending email address
I am leaving my current work position, and will no longer use the Thunderbird email address I currently use for work matters. I wish to amend my email address in order that it may instead be used by my colleague, i.e. to change from 'nameA@123.co.uk' to 'nameB@123.co.uk'. . I anticipate that after I have left my position, emails will continue to be sent to the old address.
Two questions:
1. Is it possible to alter my current email address in the manner described above? 2. Is it possible to set up Thunderbird in a a way that will ensure all messages sent to the current address will instead be directed automatically to the new address?
Thanks for your time!

Do not amend the old address. Add the new one to Thunderbird. File-New-Existing Mail Account If you want to forward the old address to the new one you do that at the server. Thunderbird email client is not involved with that.
If 123.co.uk is your employers email service presumably you will not be able to use or access that after you leave employment.
On any email service nameA must be available for you to use. There is a possibility you may be able to use that as an additional name or alias.
It is usually a good idea to keep work and personal emails separate and use separate email accounts for them.
Thunderbird is your email client, there are other methods of accessing email, but it is the email provider that allows you to choose and use a particular email address.
