Changing default browser
I am no longer using Mozilla as my default browser. EVERYTIME you update, I get an annoying add-on that often looks like it is fishing for my private account data. I don't really care that you might need these annoying and intrusive add ons, but I think it helps install malware and other unwanted crap on my laptop. I get tired of trying to remove them because I am NOT asked if I want it, your update installs without asking. I am done.

hello nooneblonde, what yo describe doesn't sound like genuine updates (tehy won't add any addons) but rather like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc. so please perform all these steps:
- please go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
- also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
- finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner, which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.
I do go to the add ons to disable or remove but I also check with the updates and it always coincides with GENUINE Mozilla updates. This has happened too often.
no firefox update will or did add extensions - those will come through other sources, so also use the tools mentioned to scan for malicious software and potentially unwanted programs that may be present on the system!
If you are going to make a claim that Firefox from mozilla.org or in Firefox updates comes with something questionable then at please give us the names.
These are likely either Extensions or Plugins you are referring to.
Plugins (ex: Flash, Java) are not installed in Firefox but are installed on system and Firefox has found and is making use of them.
Firefox is sadly becoming one of the fewer software that is clean and not bundled with anything question.
