I have had nothing but problems since 25 was released. I downgraded to 24 but the problems persist. I cannot access links on some pages, stuff load slow, I have to refresh my email after I read each one because I cannot click on anything on the page. I really despised 25 and it has changed something because it is still happening in 24. I have been through so many ups and downs with Firefox that this is pretty much the last straw for me. The memory leakage is atrocious. I cannot find any support for my issues. I have tried every fix that I can find and nothing works. Neither does resetting Firefox, which is why I still have my add-ons listed. It doesn't work if they are enabled or disabled.

Have you tried firefox in safe mode?

 To do so:

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again. Try safe mode first and if that still has issues try hardware acceleration off. By chance have you tried it with hardware acceleration off? to do so: Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

It works in safe mode with 24.1.1 and it worked before 25 was installed. Why, when I went back to 24, did my add-ons suddenly start causing a problem? I have never had this problem before. So, to me, it sounds like 25 changed some setting that uninstalling and reverting to 24 did not change. It worked perfectly before the update.

Firefox 26 was released yesterday, you can see if your problems with Firefox 25 are gone.

Some extensions may have updated in the mean time.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored
  • default toolbar layout is used (localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected
