Sometimes when I'm using the Firefox browser, this weird, blue object shows up underneath the download arrow. It doesn't happen in other browsers. I'm using Firefox 47.0 on an iMac. It even appears to slightly change shape. I included an image that shows two versions of it.

That is part of the download animation that Firefox shows when a download finishes. It looks that in your case some artifacts remain visible after this animation has finished.

Do you see this animation that makes the blue download arrow bigger when you download and save something and all downloads have finished?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox to see if that has effect.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
