I have two computers, each running XP SP3, each with Firefox 16.0.1. I use the Foxit pdf reader. Firefox on one computer opens all pdfs with no problems. Firefox on the other computer opens pdfs from most websites but not all, and the problem is specific to the website. For the problem websites I use IE Tab, but I'd rather use Firefox. I can't see a difference between the Firefox setup on the two computers, but I may not know where to look. Help?

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried. Any other ideas?

If you can't open PDF files from specific websites then this is likely a problem with the MIME type that the server sends with a file.

I will pursue everything in the links that you sent, and thank you very much for your help. Bear in mind that this is a problem on only one of my two computers. The other computer downloads and opens pdfs from all sites without any problems.
