Instructions for new features in 5.0 don't work on Mac.

The instructions for using new features in Firefox 5.0 do not work on Mac, which is most likely your largest user considering Mac users can't use IE. Contol-clicking on a tab does not result in a menu with "pin tab" or any similar wording. It is not possible to drag one tab icon on top of another to create tab groups. Those are the only two changes I've tried. Do these features not work on Mac? If they do, how do those of us who are intelligent enough to use the superior computer find instructions?

These support articles probably were written for Firefox 4, but I would be surprised if those features were turned off in Firefox 5:

Thanks, but I received the instructions when I downloaded Firefox 5. If they don't work on Mac, the instructions page should make that clear. Actually, with the growing popularity of the Mac platform that I have witnessed among my college writing students, program designers should pay more attention to our needs. The new Dreamweaver design, for example, causes text to appear over dialogue boxes users are required to fill to access sites in Firefox. Those of us who work with the platform that Windows consistently attempts to copy deserve consideration.

Those links do show the instructions for MacOS: I pre-coded the OS selection into the URLs. If they don't match reality, well, the knowledge base is maintained by volunteers. Feel free to roll up your sleeves and pitch in. :-D

But first, in case you are getting interference from an add-on, please test in a clean profile and see whether it works there. Info on the profile manager: Managing profiles | How to | Firefox Help.

Your point that the support is manned by volunteers and not the company producing the software is the problem. I have a little time right now, but I teach 15 credit hours of college writing courses during the academic term, which means I work 14 to 18 hours a day seven days a week. I do not have time to search through endless posts to seek answers to basic functionality questions. The companies that produce software should be responsible for explaining how it works, and they should do so in non-technical terms unless they want me to impose my expertise on them and demand perfect grammar on their sites. But then, corporate America is not held responsible for anything these days. Frequent, needless software updates that limit rather than enhance functionality are quickly turning me into a neo-Luddite.

Why are Mac users so damn smug? You insult the "helpers" who provide the support here and have a superior attitude regarding how important you think Mac users are to Mozilla. I am willing to bet that there are more Linux users who use Firefox than there are Mac users using Firefox. Just because you guys pay twice as much for a similar computer doesn't make you guys any better than a Windows or Linux user, although from the attitudes you Mac guys have in this forum says otherwise.

If you want software produced and supported by profit-making corporations, you have lots of choices, from Safari to Chrome to Opera to Omniweb. They all pretty much get the job done.

There must be some reason you use Firefox and took the time to post here. If you like using open source software, take a moment to think about what it means to engage with a global community rather than being a passive consumer.
