Hi,
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Hope this helps!

OK thanks ! I will run these tests over the next couple days and let you know the results....Thanks again
Update: I ran all the scans suggested above, and I also ran AVG Free full scan and Spybot 1.6.2 full scan. All returned zero hits except Malwarebytes which found; 1) PUP optional FunWebProducts 2) PUP optional Mindspark. So, over the weekend I was on my home computer quite a bit in Firefox and I did not have any problems. An interesting note: this problem is intermittent, and it did not just occur on my home computer with Firefox, it also happened a few times on my work computer which is also Windows XP SP3 but my work computer is behind a corporate firewall, proxy, etc, and runs corporate McAfee AV. I think it's interesting that I saw it happen on both systems. But now it seems to have ceased on both systems. At this point I am in monitoring mode to see if it happens again.
You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
I think this is solved. I have had no more occurrences on either PC. It seems the malwarebytes scan and fix of mindspark and funwebproducts may have fixed it ? I would say at this point it has gone away. Thanks !
