All my "hotmail" accounts, I can not get passed "Authentication" message reads "Authentication failed. Please check the username and password (exchange auth error)

looked up sources best solution would be to try manual mode; states: "At the bottom of the left pane, click the Account Actions button and select Add Mail Account…." My version I don't have this option

Are you using OAuth authentication with your Hotmail accounts? You can go to Account Settings -> your email address -> Server Settings and check if "Authentication method" is set to "OAuth2". Adding a new email address should also be possible by going to Thunderbird Menu (colloquially known as the "hamburger button") -> New Account -> Email.

In settings, turn off the experimental account hub and try again.
