Does Firefox automatically backup bookmarks? How to find firefox bookmarks from a windows backup file history?

I recently had to wipe my computer clean so I backed it up. I did a System Image backup which for some reason failed and I only found out after the fact and also did a backup using file history. I am now trying to find my firefox bookmarks. I see a folder that says old firefox data but the bookmarks are from 2017. Does Firefox automatically backup bookmarks and if so how can I find them???

Hi, no Firefox does not auto backup bookmarks or your Profile :

You will have some in old firefox data as said from 2017

Also if go to C:\ old.windows is created from doing the reinstall/refresh Dig into it by following below as best as possible :

Bookmarks are in :

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder

Does your backup include the hidden location in AppData\Roaming where Firefox stores your personal data?

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location. Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data in "AppData\Roaming" (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files in "AppData\Local" (Local Directory on about:profiles) (this data isn't important).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
