thunderbird says it is downloading msgs 1-19 and then disappears. The new e-mail do not.

It is not showing the e-mails it says are downloading. No new e-mails display.

What anti virus is it?

Sorry guys, it solved itself the next morning it went all the way back to 8:05am the day before. Guess a backup on the servers! Thanks!
