There was a similar problem with GoDaddy a while ago which did affect many people, and GoDaddy were simply denying there was a problem at all. In the end they silently fixed it, whatever the problem was.

GoDaddy reference fyi: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1260724#c10

There have been a lot of complaints in this forum recently from people using Charter about the very same problem. You'll need to talk to Charter. Tell them you're not the only one with the problem.

buckeyerambler, Have you resolved this charter.net+Thunderbird problem??

FYI - This is still an issue. I started a thread back in May about this issue and the thread has since been closed. I was hoping if I ignored the problem long enough, that it would eventually get fixed. Alas, it still doesn't work.

The only solutions I have seen on the forums, is that GoDaddy had an issue, hence Charter must have the same issue.

If anyone has anymore information, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

This might be an over simplification of the problem but what is done differently during Thunderbird startup compared to when it is checking for new messages every few minutes?

It certainly works on startup, but never works after that. Seems like this is a clue.

The issue is charter IMAP does not wrap folder names in quotes after the initial download. So subsequent fetches fail because the folder names are not correctly quoted by the server software.

Whatever Charter is telling you, you'll have to complain to them.

I am also having this problem. I talked to Charter/Spectrum before finding this thread, but they didn't know what the problem was and told me to talk to Mozilla. I am calling them back and will send them a link to this thread.

After calling them again I received some settings to change, namely, for Desktops, the Input server settings should have "IMAP.charter.net" for the server name and the Port: should be 143, and the output server name should be "SMTP.charter.net" and the port should be 25.

After making these setting changes they say I have to talk to someone at Mozilla to get the correct "Security settings" and to re-sync all of these settings with Mozilla.

I am now going to re-create my q.com account and compare settings.

After re-creating my q.com account (one that I had before and deleted from Thunderbird) I see more inconsistencies, mostly, I think, because it appears to be a POP server instead of an IMAP. In any case, I need help --- jackkistler@charter.net

Thank you for the update. I have also tried those server settings and ports in the past because that is what charter's website states for desktop only. However, I could never get it to work with those settings. I have been using the mobile settings for years without any issues before this issue came up about 6 months ago.

One thing interesting about this problem is that it does eventually download messages after a considerable delay of up to 1 and 1/2 hours. Also, logging into the www.charter.net web site and using the e-mail function available there works fine, but I can't find the settings it is using (my Browser is FireFox). Charter is still claiming the problem is with Thunderbird.
