Thunderbird 38.0 When I delete a message that is part of a thread, how can I delete just one message?

In the new Thunderbird 38.0, I cannot just delete one message if I have been sending & receiving messages back & forth with someone by using the reply button. When I do click to delete a message, it tells me that all the messages in the thread will be deleted and my only options are to cancel or delete them all. How can I just delete one message of a thread?

Thanks!

If you have your emails showing as 'threaded' then you will get the issue you are discussing.

So, remove the threading and then delete the specific emails. You can do this by clicking on the 'Display message threads' column header icon. It is usually the first column header.

or select 'unthreaded': 'View' > 'sort by' > 'unthreaded'
