how do I downgrade?

Very simple, as the subject line says. As per a previous post of mine, 31.3.0 does not automatically send replies from the address the original message was received by and I've now twice, embarrassingly, sent professional emails from my personal address. The previous version of Thunderbird matched the accounts correctly and I'd like to go back to it. Suggestions (without losing mail, settings, etc.).

Thanks.

Older versions can be found here:

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/

TB 24.6 is probably a good one to go for.

Drill down, select, download, double-click the downloaded file.

Can you give a specifci example

Not quite sure what you mean, but if you're referring to my previous post I mentioned, it's here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037730

Excellent, thanks, I'll try the most recent I had that worked which, assuming my upgrades were up to date, was probably 31.2.0.

Thanks. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037730 is the detail I was looking for. Please tell us what happens with the downgrade.

Ok, I tried 31.2.0 and still had the same problem so went back to 24.6 as Zenos suggested and the problem has gone. So, now, with 24.6, if I reply to an email that I have received addressed to "me@work" it is sent from "me@work" and if I reply to an email that I addressed to "me@home" it is sent from "me@home". Clearly this facility has been lost between 24.6 and 31.2.0.

I would be interested in knowing if it is the same in safe mode. Does reply mess up if you hold shift while starting Thunderbird? I am not having such issues with Daily.

Yes, still a problem in safe mode.

Frankly, I've had this issue with TB for as long as I can remember. And I believe there's a known special case with "Reply all", according to postings to the newsgroup/list.

The new nit with TB 31.* seems to be that when you select from the drop-down list of auto-complete suggestions, you don't actually get the one you picked.
