I empty the Spam folder regularly. However, usually shortly after, everything I deleted is back in the Spam folder again, along with any new spam emails. I have to go through all of them again each time to be sure there is no legitimate email in there as well. Why do the spam emails come back into the spam folder after emptying the spam folder?

I have used Thunderbird for years but now I am getting frustrated. I have 2 spam folders that randomly put valid emails into them and I have normal folks sending me emails that either go to spam or directly to trash. How do I totally reset this program to start over again for normal use? Thanks, Vern

Thunderbird does not download SPAM until I open the spam folder

This is an existing TB account installed on a new pc, and somehow I failed to copy the spam list across. So for the next few weeks it has to learn all over again. And at the moment there are a lot of false positives.

So when I click on the spam folder it takes some time for all the messages to download. I'd like them to download automatically, so when I click on the spam folder the messages are all there waiting for me

Yes it's IMAP

I understand that Thunderbird recommends managing spam by trusting senders in the Personal Address Book and/or Collected Addresses. For that to work, I would have to put the many companies who send me messages that I needn't reply to into the Personal Address Book. But I prefer to only put people I know into the Personal Address Book. So I looked for an alternative method of managing selected senders, and thought I had found one, but it's not working.

The alternative I thought I'd found was to use Message Filters. I created a filter I called "Whitelist", and in the Filter Rules dialog I said to apply the filter when it is run manually, or when getting new mail, and to apply the filter after spam classification (although when this didn't work, I also tried running the filter before spam classification). I said to apply the filter when the "from" address matches a sender that I wanted to whitelist. And I said to set the spam status for such messages to "Not Spam", and to move them to my inbox.

Nevertheless, emails from the sender I specified continued to be put into my spam folder.

Am I doing something wrong? If filter rules cannot be used to override automatic spam handling, why does the filter UI allow you to set the spam status to "Not Spam"?

A couple of different emails always end up in trash despite having a filter. I deleted all my filters and all incoming emails ended up in my inbox with the exception of these two. So filters are not the problem.

First off, mucho thanks to Wayne Mery for kindly guiding me back where I should again ask this question. Here's a copy of the message I posted that Wayne responded to --

> Hi Kelly, et al, > > If this isn't an appropriate place for my question / comment / suggestion -- please advise how to do it properly. > > Several months ago, I had a brief exchange with Wayne Merry(?) in which I communicated that I was "certain" that TB was not showing me ALL (99.99%) of the emails I receive for my several hosted domains. I mentioned that I used to receive 20-30-40 spam messages everyday -- mostly in "junk" (not all). Then suddenly that stopped -- perhaps after upgrading to a new version. Wayne seemed little interested in my problem, but suggested I upgrade to a newer version -- which I resisted (just want a "stable" version that works) -- but I did -- to 140.17 esr. > > That upgrade made little difference (maybe one or two more). That is very problematic for my "business-like" use of TB. I live by email. My business card minimizes my phone # (landline) and mainly shows two big, prominent e-addresses -- my old original e-address from an evil ISP in ATL (druw@oneimage.com)-- AND above that -- my main e-address which is identical to the ISP, but with DRU added to the domain (druw@OneImageDru.com). > > I verified this week that a banker business contact -- sent to both e-addresses -- and I only received the one sent to the ISP e-address. Never received the one sent to druw@OneImageDru.com -- at all. This is similar to dozens of similar situations -- in which I never received any (expected) email -- and had to assume that -- just maybe that party never sent an email (not a lot of email lovers left). > > How can I SEE ALL (99.99%) email sent to my TB -- including seeing ALL spam sent to my TB -- just verify that there aren't any unintended NON-spam messages that are being mischaracterized as spam -- but are not? Is there a particular TB version that has potentially solved this problem? > > Any suggestions for running an other particular IMAP client (not deleting) -- to compare with what I get with TB? > > Merci, > > Dru

Hello Dru. You were close with the name :)

Through https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/druw/ I see you previous posting No longer see ALL messages, including spam after upgrade to TB 128.14 Oesr (64, Win 10) from 6 months ago and your older posting More "granularity needed" to "How to turn off Junk filtering / TB 115.10 from a year ago.

The description of planning at https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/planning/settings indicates this group is not for bug reporting and support. The place for support is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/thunderbird. You will want to state that the problem is seen with version 153 or newer, and in Troubleshoot Mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird Thanks

I somehow have a Spam folder stuck in Trash. This can of course be removed if I manually empty Trash, but respawns automatically when I restart TB. I've made sure that the "real" Spam folder is pointed to correctly in Account Settings.

How can I safely (and persistently) remove this phantom Spam folder? Thanks in advance.

After I set up my IMAP account on a Windows laptop, it had two Spam folders. Properties showed that the path of one ended in "/Junk" and the other path in "/spam". Note that they are both labeled "Spam" under the Home (not local) Inbox.

I just want one Junk or Spam folder, not both. Or at least be able to label one Junk and the other Spam.

Having two spam folders under the Home account with the same name is confusing. How do I fix it.

How do I set up Thunderbird so that no incoming email is automatically diverted to my spam folder?

I like TB flagging incoming emails that it thinks is spam, but I don't want TB to automatically divert any emails into the Spam folder. Is this possible?

I use four email accounts on TB. I'd like to set this up for all four accounts.
