When I click on the search icon at the top right of my browser, there was no Twitter. In fact, there were four UK listings in the drop-down: Amazon, eBay, Chambers and Yahoo. Odd, since I'm in Indiana. How can I resolve this strange phenomenon?
Got an email yesterday: "Twitter, meet Firefox. Firefox, meet Twitter. Everyone else, meet Firefox with Twitter built in to the search bar. To use it, all you have to do is click on the search icon at the top right of your browser and select Twitter from the drop-down. Read more about how to use this new feature and how you can benefit from it. " So I clicked the icon and got no Twitter; just Yahoo.co.ul, same with ebay, Amazon and Chambers???

Try to restore the default search engines by clicking the search engine icon and open Manage Search Engines.
You can also try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the Firefox Profile Folder.

What Firefox build are you using and which OS?
Try to manually add Twitter search engine following cor-el's reply. If it does not work, try creating a new firefox profile see where that get you
I actually did go to manage search engines and deleted the UK bad boys, while adding Twitter and some others. And when I clicked return to default, well, the UK returned. Then I added a new profile ... to no avail! Fortunately, this is not life-threatening. And I appreciate your help.
You can add missing search engines via the Mycroft Project website.
Do you see those search engines in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) folder?
If not then try to reinstall Firefox.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm gonna go with "it came with Firefox 9" since it wasn't there before. I'm actually rocking Portable Firefox, customized by PortableApps.com, but they work with Mozilla, it's not some off-the-wall third-party deal like IceWeasel or Pale Moon (both of which I'm sure are legitimate, but they do not work with Mozilla, and that is the point I'm making).
I got Twitter as well, on top of the .uk search engines. I do not mind them, they are easily removed. I'm leaving Twitter just because it might prove useful at some point. I'm only slightly bothered that my Wikipedia search engine was moved to the bottom. That was easily fixed as well, though.
