How to block video autoplay

ronks1

Although I have Firefox (on Windows 11)

Settings | Permissions | Autoplay

set to block audio & video as the default for all sites, no exceptions listed, nevertheless one site (the NY Times, but possibly others) shows videos that sometimes appear to stall the browser. One address in particular seems to do this. Here is a sample line:

Is there a way to prevent it from getting around the blocking?

Had this exact headache on a news site. Changing the main setting did nothing at first.

Turns out I had an old entry tucked away in my site exceptions list. Deleted that, set the default back to block audio and video, and wiped the site data just for that one page. Closed Firefox completely and fired it back up. Video stayed quiet after that.

If yours is still playing, test the page in a fresh profile. Quickest way to check if one of your add-ons is messing with it.
