I need to set up an email for husband (age 88) that I can use to communicate with Social Security & other agencies?
My husband (DG) is 88 and beginning to have severe memory & analysis problems. I recently tried for three days, using his computer, to set up an account for him on the Social Security site, that I could oversee. It accepted a password, but kept asking for a 'backup code' that supposedly was 'assigned' - so I would have a second method to verify the account. There was no way, on that web page, that I could request a 'backup code' or ask for the '10 backup codes' that were supposedly given automatically. I wanted to simply get a letter that explained his SSA eligibility, so we could apply for Senior housing. I was able to call SSA and request the letter - but it will take 14 days by mail. We need it now - and I should have been able to simply download a PDF eligibility letter to print out. In less than 5 minutes, I was able to request and download an eligibility letter for myself on MY SSA account - but could not do it through his SSA account. I need to be able to communicate with SSA (& other agencies) and receive their replies through an email "AccountForDG@centuryxxxxx.net" that I can read in my email account "CuriousQuestor@centuryxxxxx.net). How do I set this up? Thanks in advance.

I understand that your email CuriousQuestor@centuryxxxxx.net is working from the emails web page.
If that is true, you need to set up Thunderbird to receive and send email using CuriousQuestor@centuryxxxxx.net. Right?
First, you can try Thunderbird's automatic account set up: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-account-configuration
The password is your email account's password for your web email. Not a new password.
If automatic setup does not work out, you can try to manually set it up: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration
For this, you need to find out your mail provider's incoming and outgoing servers. Normally, you can log in to your web mail and find it via its settings.

Thanks for your quick reply. I wasn't very clear on how I get my email. I do use Thunderbird and already have my email set up as 'CuriousQuestor@centuryxxxx.net. It goes to the centuryxxxx.net site to be processed. I can get my email on the web if needed, but rarely do so.
What I need is another email address (AccountforDG@centuryxxxx.net) that I can use ON HIS SOC SEC ACCOUNT so correspondence goes through me, on my computer, rather than through him, on his computer - but is accepted by SSA. Normally you have to sign into government accounts on the computer that receives emails (etc) regarding that account. Since he can't use the computer, and I am continually frustrated by all the correspondence/email shuffling that this requires, I want to give myself a "side door", you might say, to allow me access to help him take care of his needs in as simple a manner as possible.
So you want to have an email account - AccountforDG@centuryxxxx.net - on your computer, right? You can do this as what I said above. After that you can access email for AccountforDG@centuryxxxx.net through Thunderbird on your computer.
You can check if you can change the SOC SEC account email to yours or add yours as a secondary email address so that your can receive emails for AccountforDG@centuryxxxx.net in CuriousQuestor@centuryxxxx.net as well from your account.
