I spent hours today with Rogers/Shaw support with nothing but a waste of my time. At the end they blame Tbird and were totally useless in helping. Thunderbird was fully working two days ago and I made no changes to anything. I am using the latest Tbird version. Today I uninstalled it and reinstalled with no change. I hate Rogers/Shaw but want to keep my email ID that I have used for many years.

I suspect this is password issue caused by Rogers but I can't identify it and as I said ROgers support was a waste of time. On the support chat the previous day they said they had a "back end" issue but now say that was fixed.

I too am getting intermittent problems with sending and receiving emails.

The first time, in Dec/25 the T-bird email crashed and then the TV reception crashed. Contacted Shaw. Technician did something from his end and then told me to unplug and replug my TVs. That got the TVs and the email working.

Now this week the TVs are OK but the email has crashed. I contacted Rogers/Shaw and they concluded it is a T-bird problem. I fidgeted with settings, and finally got it working again. And now it has crashed again.

(History: I have been using Windows Live Mail for 20 years, up until Dec/25. My wife was on WLM also until last summer when Microsoft made her update her Win 11. About 2 years earlier Microsoft updated Win 11. That killed WLM, it could not send, reply or fwd. So we reversed the upgrade and paused any new upgrades, and WLM resumed. Then last summer Microsoft told her to update Win 11 or loose support. We updated Win 11 and WLM stopped working. So I installed T-bird. No problems. Then I had to get a new laptop in Dec/25, c/w Win 11, and I installed T-bird. It was working well on both computers until later in Dec/25. Now all this recurring problem).

Please do not use someone elses question as it may not be the same problem. It may be the same server, but it doesn't mean same problem as you mention 'crash'. You are sending the original person who posted the question an email of your issue which they may not be able to answer. Also, I specifically asked to not post comments in this question as it was being handled in another location.

You can only use the settings that the server states you must use. You should always include an image of current settings being used.

re : but the email has crashed.

Do you mean 'crashed' as in Thunderbird closed. Look in this location to get a Crash ID

  • Help > TRoubleshooting Information
  • Scroll down to 'Crash Reports for the last 3 days'
  • It should have a crash ID number - it may have blue text as it's a link - do not use the link - just copy the ID number and post it into this forum in your own question.

OR do you mean it looks like it has frozen/locked up? What are you doing when it seems to freeze ? Are you always composing an email? If yes, then it might be this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1972457

  • Settings > General
  • scroll to very bottom and click on the 'Config Editor' button
  • It opens in a new tab
  • in search type: force
  • look for: accessibility.force_disabled
  • default has zero 0 setting
  • click on the pencil icon
  • Remove the zero and type : 1
  • click on the tick icon to save.
  • restart Thunderbird
