This is a new computer and I'm adding what I had on my former computer. I need Java to do the puzzles I like. I've followed instructions in the article about this using the tools. I've done everything you suggest. It still blocks the application. I also have followed instructions on the Java site. Still, Java comes up blocked. What can I do next?

Updated Ad Blocker for Firefox 11+ 0.7.7 ({4DC70064-89E2-4a55-8FC6-E8CDEAE3618C})

That appears to be malware.

  1. Remove "Updated Ad Blocker for Firefox 11+" from the Add-ons Manager, Extensions category.
  2. Install, update, then fully scan your system with Malwarebytes Antimalware.
  3. Update your anti-virus then perform a full system scan with it.

Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.51.2 for Mozilla browsers

That's the latest version of Java available from java.com, however a more recent version is available from oracle.com.

  1. From the following page, save the jre-8-windows-i586.exe file.
  2. Exit all browsers.
  3. Uninstall all versions of Java as described below.
  4. Install the current version of Java that you downloaded earlier.

I solved this on my own by persisting in finding an answer. Found it right on the Firefox site where someone had already asked the question. You fix it thru Java by adding your desired site to those allowed. Funny, I'd tried that before but what I'd done wrong was not including the http:// before the address. When I added that it works, and asks me each time if I want to use Java. This solution is lots easier than what G Man suggested...but thanks anyway.
