thunderbird has stopped receiving emails from century link

thunderbird has stopped receiving e-mails from century link. Configurations worked for two years as pop3, now won't connect. Tried imap configuration, same issue. Changed password (CenturyLink has problems with some password characters), still will not connect. AI (co pilot) tells me it is an issue since CenturyLink made changes, but they blame the email app (tried with Samsung app, thunderbird, outlook, none will connect. Connection thru CenturyLink web page works fine.

those are the configuration settings i am using (and worked previously). I am told the issue is CenturyLink has disabled IMAP/POP3 access ...their techs say it is my phone app, phone and app techs say it is on CenturyLink's end...Having to use website e mail now, with only clumsy access from phone. Worked for two years with same phone, same settings.

I don't have a solution for you, but you mention that CenturyLink has dropped IMAP/POP3 access - is this documented anywhere? I find no mention of that in the 'Net, but it's something that would affect great many people and I would like to know for troubleshooting purposes.

I will ask - you said you changed your password at CenturyLink - were you prompted for the new password in Thunderbird, or did you update your Saved Password there?

I agree with your suspicion that it's a problem on their end, since all of your desktop and mobile email apps stopped working at the same time.

After talking with techs from Century Link (repeatedly) and Samsung and Thunderbird, I asked the question on Co Pilot and their AI came back with detailed instructions on reset. As we worked thru the series of failures, Co Pilot told me it is a known issue due to recent Century Link security enhancements. In addition, Century Link login has difficulty with some characters in the password it will accept. Using the AI fixes, I have managed to get Outlook working from the desktop, and login thru Century Link's website works fine, but still unable to connect from my phone (a Samsung galaxy s23). Tried forwarding emails to outlook, but Century Link has removed that option. Asked Century Link which is best phone app to use with them, but their techs "were not allowed to advise on 3rd party apps". I am shifting my primary email to my GMAIL account which works fine, and would drop Century Link completely except I have had that email address for 26 years and would hate to lose contact with all those who use it.
