I set a master password so I can use bank details but now Firefox asks for it every time I open the program; I've read that it's because of Sync, but I don't want my passwords sent to a server, I just want them stored locally, and when I go into Options and the Sync tab there's nothing to disable it. Help!

  1. From any computer open the preferences
  2. Enter this into your url bar: about:preferences#sync
  3. Uncheck "Passwords" and restart Firefox.

Are you opening a page where you have saved a password?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It opens the default page; I've never changed it: https://www.google.com/?trackid=sp-006

If I go to about:preferences#sync, there's no Passwords checkbox; it just says Access your tabs, bookmarks, passwords and more wherever you use Firefox.

Using an older version of Sync?

When I start in Safe Mode, I don't get the master password prompt, so I'm not sure which extension is causing it. I have ColorZilla, Firebug, MeasureIt, and Pocket installed, but I'm only signed into Pocket, so is that causing it? I'm never prompted to sign into Pocket for the extension to work, and I don't have the website username/password saved either, so I don't know why Firefox is prompting me for the master password.
