There are several buttons in Google search result pages that won't respond when I click on them (safesearch and options buttons on the "images" page; also, the pulldown button to access cached pages in the regular Google search results page). I've tried disabling all my add-ons, restarting Firefox in Safe Mode (all add-ons disabled), and cleared all my Google cookies, but none of those make any difference. All those buttons work in IE, but haven't tried any other browser. Other than removing and re-installing Firefox (which I don't want to do b/c I don't want to have to rebuild all my customizations), what else can I try? TIA

You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Hi, thanks for your response. I have tried all the steps listed, including all steps listed on the "Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes" page (everything except resetting FF to its default state and deleting FF preference files) and the problem still exists. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks.

I was having this problem as well, and I narrowed it down to an issue with prefs.js and one of the settings under "datareporting","devtools" or "dom" (I don't know which). I can post the relevant section of my prefs.js if someone thinks they can find some useful information out from those settings to help resolve this issue for others.
