This doesn't work: Bookmarks -> Bookmar This Page -> Show all the bookmarks folders. The panel with folders doesn't respond. I tried everything, even reinstalling Firefox and it doesn't help. When I use sqlite3.exe utility to cleanup places.sql it says that the file is encrypted or that it is not a database. This happen even on new fresh installation of Firefox: the panel doesn't respond.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Hardware acceleration is causing the problem. When I disable it (Tools -> Options -> General -> Use hardware acceleration when avaliable (remove tick) ), the problem is gone. But if I disable hardware acceleration the rendering quality is poor, so this is not an acceptable solution. Also, when I start Firefox in safe mode, there is no problem.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

The problem persists even if I disable all extensions. The panel works properly only in Safe-mode.

Are you using a custom theme or a persona (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes)?
