I daily receive numerous "postmaster failure to deliver" messages from a very old message which never delivered... and many of my contacts receive the same prompt... It cannot be stopped and keeps hitting many accounts on a daily basis

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.

If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
