My history will not clear with the "Clear recent history" tool.

I click "Clear Recent History," check all the boxes, select "Everything" from the drop down menu, and click "Clear Now" and my Firefox will delete my cookies, but it will not delete my browsing history. My browsing history stays. I click the history drop down menu on the top and it still has things I browsed just moments ago.
