When I open a new page it doesn't go to my home page but a Firefox page labeled Important News. How do I get to my home page?

The page that opens says:

"Changes to your Firefox profile" and "Sign in or create a Firefox Account." I have signed in several times now but the page keeps appearing.

Thanks.

Hi dhgold, yes, you can reset

browser.startup.homepage

No problem. There should be a little button at the right end of the row to reset, or you can double click and paste in your preferred address,

Hi dhgold, you get that page if you either

  • Launch a new window (Ctrl+n)
  • Click the Home button or press Alt+Home on the keyboard

Or is the problem with a new tab page (Ctrl+t) ?

If it's the home page, please check your setting on the Options page in case it somehow changed: How to set the home page.

If I launch a new tab I get a blank page with a small Google search space at the top, which is fine.

If I hit the Home button I get a blank page with a big Google space in the middle, which is great, that is just what I want.

However, if I go to the menu at upper right and click on New Window I get the "Sign in or create a Firefox Account" which I do not want.

Does that clarify the situation?

Wow, usually New Window and Home give you exactly the same page or pages. I don't understand how you're getting that.

Hi, I followed your advice on another post:

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar browser.startup.homepage

and I got to this:

{"message_id":"WNP_MOMENTS_1","url":"https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/welcome/1/","expire":1583374274562}

which was next to:

browser.startup.homepage_override.once

Could that be the problem and, if so, can I delete it without causing problems? Thanks.

Are you part of a personalization study perhaps? You can check your studies page to see whether one of those might be the source of the unexpected home page. This article has more info: About Studies.

Great!!! I guess I got there in a roundabout way but deleting that line worked and I now am getting the home page I wanted. Thank you very, very much.

....... Also, I checked and I wasn't involved in any studies.
