Go ahead and try installing an older version.
Here is link to the archives for the Windows 32 bit, 45.6 version: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/45.6.0/win32/
Choose your language, then download the exe file.

Are you on XP SP3? If yes, then Thunderbird 52 should run.
