Whether I am on Yahoo or Facebook Firefox occasionally just stops working for a couple minutes.. Then after a while it starts working again. The stoppages seem random as they don't occur regularly. I use Malwarebytes premium to protect my computer and run scan regularly so there are no viruses etc. in my machine. Any ideas why Firefox just stops?

Firefox crashed. I am trying to get it to how I had it before this. One of the problems is the new tabs thing. I know about CTRL-T, I have not used it. I have used the + on the tabs for years. I know, big deal, it's just inconvenient, interrupts my train of thought to switch, which is no big deal. But if anyone has a moment and can answer, it would be a blessing for me. Thank you.

In both my desktop older installation (now updated) and my new laptop installation, when I go thru Account Settings and check off what I want, it all changes when I leave the setup. I uncheck the startup page, and when I open both versions of Bird, the startup page is there again. Same with table/card setup, and other options. Isn't there a "save" in Account settings? Thanks, Stacy

Firefox on my wife's phone keeps randomly opening. How do I figure out what's causing this. First we noticed it happened when she plugs in an auxgzilery battery pack but then it's randomly opening anytime. What should I try to fix this. I thought I would remove and reinstall Firefox but I just figured the settings would remain as they are.

Ubuntu - I use the SNAP version of Firefox - I generally have lots of tabs open but only use 5 or so of them and it's generally fine.... but when I am closing Firefox, it USES like 100% of the CPU and ALL of the RAM and ALL of the SWAP memory when closing.

This locks up the computer.

Sometimes it doesn't quite go all the way but I can watch it all happen in real time, using Task Manager - and that shows a solidwall of all resources occouring, when the close Firefox is run.

I am told by research via ChatGPT that this is a very real problem with the SNAP version and it's best to change to the Debian version, copy all the bookmarks etc., across and then uninstall the SNAP version.

It's rather disconcerting to have Linux crash because of this one app locking it up and frequently.

Chat GPT:

Is there a problem with Firefox Snap Version closing and using all the resources while doing so, which results in locking up the computer?

You're definitely not imagining it—there have been reports of Firefox's Snap version consuming excessive system resources (CPU, memory) and even causing lockups or hangs, particularly during closure. Here's what’s going on and how to mitigate it:

What’s Happening with Firefox Snap?

2. Browser Hangs or Locks the System on Close

On Linux (especially Ubuntu), users have reported that closing Firefox can lead to it hanging in memory, sometimes unresponsive and still consuming resources.
Super User
Ask Ubuntu
A stark example from Reddit illustrates the severity:
“About 50% of the time I open Firefox, it'll reach 100% CPU usage in about 30 seconds… PC completely unusable unless I shutdown.”
Reddit

3. Known Wayland Sway Bug

On Wayland/Sway setups, reloading Sway while Firefox is open can trigger intense logging, causing high CPU use and an enormous syslog.
Fix: Set MOZ_DISABLE_WAYLAND_PROXY=1, or upgrade to FF 125 where the issue is addressed.

Alternative Approach

Many users, particularly on Ubuntu, opt out of Snap completely in favor of the .deb package or PPA builds. These alternatives often avoid these specific issues. Ask Ubuntu Reddit

For the past few weeks, it seems to me, I have noticed that if I close a tab on Firefox for iOS, and at some point later I force-quite Firefox, then the next time I open Firefox, the tab that I had closed will reload as though I had never closed the tab or app. I am curious if this is something the developers are aware of and can fix? Or if there is some other solution?

Since April 5th I have lost spell check in the message pane of the emails I type on outlook.live.com It still works in the subject line, but not the message area.

Windows 10 pro 22H2 updated to end of March, when spell check was still working well. Firefox 137.1 English Canada Language selected (has worked well for years)

I go to outlook.live.com to read and answer my @hotmail.com emails.

When right clicking on a misspelled word in the message area I get only these options, Firefox does not give me the usual options.

I am currently having other problems on that site, clearing outlook.live.com cookies does not clear the problems.

I moved to the Firefox flatpack after the Debian version couldn't display the code inspector/ web developer tools anymore (it was blank amid other likely javascript-based rendering errors). I only include this context in case some one else has the issue and searches for it.

I want to sync all my tabs from the Debian version to the flatpack version and similar to this solved issue I cannot access those tabs from the firefox view. However I am also unable to access these tabs from the sidebar. I am only able to access these tabs from the account menu but this would have me open each tab individually which is not feasible for me.

Is there a way to fix the "Check your internet connection If you’re using a firewall or proxy, check that Firefox has permission to access the web." error that comes up in both the Tabs from other devices sidebar and Firefox View menu?

Having updated to 140.2.1 there are two Outboxes in my local data. They are both named Outbox but one refers to a location of "Outbox" and the other to a location of "Unsent messages". The former is the location where messages to be sent should go, the latter is the location used in previous versions of Thunderbird. Unfortunately Thunderbird is putting messages in the latter. Not only does this mean that my Thunderbird does not match the documentation but also the Send Later addon uses the former and is therefore not working. This seems to be an error in the update process. How can I get Thunderbird to use the correct location ("Outbox")? I can find nothing in prefs.js that relates to the location of the Outbox ... surely it can't be hard coded!

Version, 142.0.1 (64-bit). I have both refreshed and uninstalled/reinstalled, the latter three times with full deletion of every folder and file related to Firefox that I can locate, on the computer, in both of the active profiles of the computer (i.e. my non-admin laptop user, and the laptop's Admin account). While I do change some of the Settings when I reinstall, I haven't touched the first part of the Privacy & Security settings; it's left at Standard Enhanced Tracking Protection. In those same settings, neither have I checked the box under Cookies & Site Settings that would make the browser delete cookies every time it's closed.

I don't use the Firefox password manager, so that is unchecked. Also, I uncheck the autofill options (address, etc.).

I think I've narrowed down the problem to one of two things. I use the Bitwarden browser extension. Also, after I reinstall Firefox, I import the back-up .json file of my bookmarks, which was last saved a month ago -- long before I had this issue. Would either of these actions be interfering with Firefox saving cookies?

The only other thing to add: the laptop computer had a system board failure about a month ago, and the board was replaced by the manufacturer. (The .json bookmarks backup I'm importing was made before the computer was sent for repair.)

Also I've carefully followed the steps in the support articles related to refreshing/uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, so no point referring me to those. :-)
