The longer Firefox runs, the slower my computer gets. When first started, my memory used by Firefox is roughly 100K, as time goes on, without doing anything additional, it will start to creep upward, often climbing to 500-600K of memory usage.

I also have trouble shutting Firefox down totally. Often, especially when it is running slowly, I need to go into the windows Task Manager to force a firefox shutdown, even though Firefox doesn't appear to be running, it still shows up in the task Mgr. This seems like a memory leak from decades ago...any help?

If I manually clear the cache, it helps for a while, much like re-starting Firefox. The system has been running for about 2 hours since I restarted Firefox and my memory usage is up to 450K of memory. It varies a bit up and down, but when it gets above 500K of used memory it starts to crawl. Closing windows doesn't seem to free up the used memory. The problem seems to go back to the version 6 upgrade. I don't know what else to do other than to restart FFox a few times daily.

Did you try Starting Firefox in Safe Mode as mentioned in the 3rd link of my previous reply ??

Sorry...missed the 3rd item for safe mode. Opening Firefox brings me to 76K memory, up to 150K if hotmail is opened, up to 220K replying to this email. Next stop, restart in safe mode to see if something else is sapping this. I'm pretty sure it isn't a virus/trojan/malware as I scan regularly with a few reliable scanners. I'll let you know...thanks for the help!!

Running in safe mode seems to help considerably. My memory usage is considerably lower in safe mode, currently 175K with 5 or 6 open tabs. I guess I'll start selectivly turning off the add-ons I have, although I don't have many installed. Thanks again for the help...I'm gonna keep my eye on it to see if it starts creeping up again, but so far it is much better.
