I've been using Firefox and No Script for a couple of years now and this week, when I go to Google.com and search for anything; I get a strange looking square on top left corner:

this has never happened before.

You mentioned NoScript. What happens if you allow all?

Do you have this problem when running in Firefox Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

If it does not occur in Safe Mode, an extension is at fault. (I suppose you'll want to check NoScript first?)

I use NoScript and with everything allowed it looks fine, with all forbidden it just doesn't show the image results.

You could also try clearing you cache. See Clear recent history.
