I was trying to delete many hundreds of old emails and highlighted many that were unread at a time. (Shift, select emails and shift on the last one). They highlighted in blue. When I clicked on "delete," the blue highlight turned gray and nothing happened. Now I can't even go back in and delete them one at a time.

Is there a limit to the number of emails I can delete in one group? How can I delete the ones that are now gray (instead of bold black showing unread)?

I hope this makes sense. Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

PS I can still delete smaller groups of emails by highlighting them in blue. But am only doing a maximum of 10 at a time. Can I do more? As this rate, it will take me forever to get through all of them.

I would guess you have encountered some form of timeout. These time-frames are set, and are good for most actions, but depending on the bandwidth you have to the internet and the speed at which you can take actions when you antivirus has to spend an age scanning the encrypted connection varies from install to install. Personally i would expect the be able to delete hundreds of thousands of email locally (POP mail account) and less than 1000 when using an IMAP account although just about everyone's experience will differ a little when IMAP is used based on bandwidth, the server availability as well as third party interaction with things like cloud backups and antivirus programs..
