how to make Thunderbird check for new mail in specific order for my accounts?

I have multiple accounts to keep different tasks separate(ish). Let's say forums, work, school, family, and shops.

When I ask to 'download messages for all accounts' it doesn't even start with the default account, 'work'. There's no rhyme or reason to the order. It'll trundle forever working on 'forums' when what I want is 1) work, and 2)school so I can start dealing with those while it can take as long as it wants on the others.

I have tried and tried and tried to find a way to tell it what I want, but it keeps ignoring me. The closest I've come is entries in user.js, but it's still not working because I'm not at all sure of the syntax.

What should I have for these lines in user.js? (Pretend those account numbers refer to my five categores above.) Or am I on the wrong track?

user_pref("mail.accountmanager.accounts", "account2,account3,account4,account5,account1"); user_pref("mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount", "account2");

Thanks for any help you can provide!

There is no effective method for ordering that I am aware of. And I'm aware of a lot.

Oh no! Say it ain't so. I figured I was just somehow stupidly missing it. The good thing about this is I can stop wasting my time looking for it.

And go over to Request for Features and suggest it. Now that I know, I bet there's over 10,000 requests for this over the last 20 years, all carefully ignored :rolleyes: !
