I installed Thunderbird and got my Protonmail working--even my trash folder is functional after not working for the past month-- except that the contacts did not accompany the message history and files. There are instructions for importing an address book file, but I do not know what sort of file my protonmail address book is ( .cvs, .tsv, or .ldif, or .vcf., .vczrd, or .sqlite, or .mab).

Chosen solution

If I go to Protonmail via the web, contacts are there. The Thunderbird/bridge did not include the contacts, however all my emails and the ability to sort and delete and move from file to file are all there (and much easier to do as compared to on the web in my opinion). I will, however see if proton can answer my questions re: the codes. Solved: Go to the proton webmail and save contacts to folder. Go to Thunderbird mail and go to import. The file when saved indicates the type of file which then can be selected from the choices on the Thunderbird import screen. Well, I thought that worked, but when I opened thunderbird this morning...nothing! Back to Square one. Sorry Folks for my seemingly inconsistent predicament! The contacts have reappeared. So, thanks for the info, I think I am done.
