I have tried to add this address to my address book. Normally, one clicks on the icon and a pop-up appears to modify information and confirm entry into address book. This address always shows up as "not in book," clicking has no apparent effect, until one checks the address book and now duplicates exist.

First image you can see that Freeman is in the address book Second image you can see that Tbird thinks the address is not in the book Third image after I've clicked and no apparent action is taken, a duplicate appears.

When this bug first appeared I had clicked on the icon multiple times, and multiple entries appeared in address book. I deleted them all, tried again, bug still happens.

Please save the message as .eml file and post here the headers which show the mail address. This will allow us to see exactly what is in the email.

I looked at other emails, and most do not have quotes around the plain text name. If I find another with quotes, I'll check and see if that is the cause.

Quote properly used should have no effect.

Please check the following:

  • Does it happen in Help > Troubleshoot Mode?
  • Is there an edit in progress for any address book contact?
  • On startup, do you see any addressbook/contact related errors in Error Console (ctrl+shift+J) ?

Yes, it happens in Troubleshoot No edits in progress Error console image here

I also note, the address does NOT appear in Collected Addresses at all???! I looked up an old contact at schwab.com, it also has the same behavior. Could the domain effect this somehow? That would be crazy.

Sorry, I have no additional ideas. Hopefully someone else can help.

Can you add new contacts using the address book tab?

Is this just for that one email address? I did a test by sending a message to myself from another email client, placing name in quotes to mirror the example shown. Thunderbird properly recognized the email, despite the quotes. If this happening to just this one email id, it would be difficult to pursue, but if this happens for others, I suspect a corrupted addressbook (which would be rare). What you might do is to create a backup of the addressbook and recreate it. I would NOT do this if it's just the one email address. Those steps would be: - export the addressbook to vcf (as I believe that maintains more content that csv) - exit thunderbird and copy the abook.sqlite file to a safe place (for restoring if needed) - restart thunderbird and empty the addressbook - then, import the vcf export

Sorry for slow response.

Yes, I can add via address book tab. No, adding this name and email that way doesn't help. It still behaves the same way. I tried deleting all copies, shutting down, making sure nothing was still running in task manager, restarting, then adding entry.

I think I mentioned looking at another email from the same domain, it had the same behavior. Would it help if I send the files? Send me a link or address to upload, that's my yahoo name.

Good day! I have a similar problem after some of recent updates July, I think. Actually, once I click to add address, obviously same occurs into Address book, but the icon remain gray (not change color to blue) and if have some short description, it is not visible. Above issue really looks to be after version update, as I am using old version into another laptop, and have no problem. Any ideas? Thank you!

Please share more information. A screenshot may help, as I am unclear on your issue. Thanks.
