Tools/Settings inoperative in Firefox 91 / cannot access the internet at all

more options

When Firefox updated to version 90 then 91, the Tools/Settings selection doesn't work. I can select "Settings" but nothing happens and I can't change any settings.

I've reinstalled several times to no avail and have had to switch to Brave for the last couple of weeks.

How do I fix this?

Thanks!

P.S. I find I can't access the internet at all now.

What OS are you using? Did you try safe mode? Firefox safe mode: Click the menu button, click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled…. Firefox will start up with the Firefox Safe Mode dialog.

Have you tried another account on the same computer?

Hi jonzn4SUSE,

I'm using Windows 10 (latest version) on a year old Lenovo. I've tried Safe Mode but nothing happened when I did.

I just created another account and tried Firefox again but I can't access the internet with it and I received the same error message as when I first tried to install Firefox in my regular account.

The error message when I first installed Firefox (image added) didn't reappear during re-installations.

I've used Firefox since it was first offered to the public and never had a problem until the latest Windows update.

Thanks, Bruce

Hi bruce.laycraft,

The new in-content about:preferences page has replaced the previously used standalone Options/Preferences window.

You can toggle browser.preferences.inContent to false on the about:config page to restore the standalone Options/Preferences window that you had in previous Firefox versions.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thanks TyDraniu, works perfectly now! I don't know why that file/program was missing on my computer. Bruce
