Had FF 32bit changed to 64bit and 'Services' remained 32bit, some times twice a day my system LOCKS up, how do I change Services for FF to 64bit?

As Admin opened "Services," "Mozilla Maintenance" rite clicking then selection "Properties" "Recovery" then "First failure" drop down "Run a Program," six (6) lines down to "Run Program" box clicking upon "Browse" RB then selecting the path to my 64bit "Mozilla Maintenance.exe" entering that within the BOX without any HELP. Then went into the Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Service\Uninstall.exe (removing the 32bit Maintenance Services from "Services").

Going again as Admin into the "Program Files\Mozilla FireFox\maintenanceservice_installer.exe" thinking that would install my 64bit Mozilla Maintenance serevcices.exe for my 64bit which it did not, my 32bit is back after a restart. How do I make this change?

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Due to Power Outages and storms this will be delayed several HOURS or a day. Also have special tasks to take care of today, being out and about in other parts of town.

After receiving this message within my ThunderB1rd latest updates. Not going into all issues at this time as it is only 0430 in the morning and most electricity is doubtful for some time. If I may suggest, your message has been read and could be confusing to people just awaking with these issues occurring. If all postings reference only one type of O/S then do NOT post for others as well, keep only what is relavamt to their O/S.

It took less time after all. It did NOT work. Retrieved 64bit "Firefox Setup 66.0.3.exe" running as Admin, installed without any issues. Examining Services after the install was given "Services: Mozilla Maintenance Services "Failed to Read Description: Error Code 2" Did reboot in Safe Mode, NO HELP! Found C:\Programs Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Services\(Log folder, plus four usual files for Services installation or one uninstall). Did not remove the entry for x86 but did rerun the install again and now there is NOT an entry in "Services" for Mozilla. Will not be back here until afternoon, local time CDST.

1315 hrs, just managed to get back to look further into this issue. Well it seems leaving it OFF for several hours did the trick, in part. It has "C:\Program Files (x86)\~" installation for "Mozilla Maintenance Service" in the "Services" area with my system being 64bit AND there are files within the "C:\Program Files\FireFox\~ with the correct files needed to install 64bit "Services" yet it reinstalls the 32bit version even after my completely removal of the 32bit from services and the (x86) folder from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Service\~" with same folder and files reinstalled with this 64bit version of FireFox v66.0.3. In the "Services" program is operational with 'Automatic' in the 'Start up' field. Was not able to achieve this before with my original install or even with this FRESH install prior to my departure. "C" if you can figure that one OUT!

Did you check the maintenance service installation folders and made sure they were gone before you reinstalled MMS?

  • Installation directory: %PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Maintenance Service

You may have to reboot to confirm that this lasts.

YES, I did remove all Mozilla and/or FireFox folders, except the User's were not touched. Thought I had 'laced' into my comments the fact I had removed x86 and 64bit folders for "Mozilla Maintenance Service" as well as FireFox 64bit software before doing the 'FRESH INSTALL' v66.0.3 64bit.

After returning went in and checked and as stated in my earlier post, it is working now only x86 (32bit) was installed from a 64bit download. It also installed the x86 folder for "Mozilla Maintenance Service" then used that to inject into the "Services" when checking the 'Properties'.
