The ad was in a Yahoo page?

The general rule is that popups should be blocked by the built-in popup blocker unless there was a preceding user action. If someone is getting around that somehow, it would be helpful to track it down and block it. But it may be difficult to experience the problem without spending a lot of time poking around Yahoo with your ad blocker disabled.

Speaking of ad blockers, if you never considered using one, maybe it's time? This one is well-regarded:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

As with any content blocking feature or add-on, there may be pages that will not display correctly when their ad and tracking scripts are blocked. If something isn't right, click the add-on's toolbar button to see whether making an exception for the site fixes it. In the end, "to block or not to block" is a balance of reduced annoyance, load speed, security, and convenience that each user has to decide for themselves.

Hi, noticed that your on Win10 so your on something that seems Win10 has changed your Video Card Drivers to : adapterDescription: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) driverDate: 3-11-2013

The drivers are also full of errors. This is just a sample of what I see : D3D11_COMPOSITING'}, {u'status': u'blacklisted', u'description': u'Direct2D', u'log': [{u'status': u'available', u'type': u'default'}, {u'status': u'blacklisted', u'message': u'#BLOCKLIST_FEATURE_FAILURE_1180379', u'type': u'env'}], u'name': u'DIRECT2D'}, {u'status': u'blacklisted', u'description'

They have posted there own error message of : webgl2Renderer: WebGL creation failed: * Error during ANGLE OpenGL init. * Exhausted GL driver caps.

So if your not a Mobile and not a Microsoft product and your drivers were newer than 2013 they have then been replaced.

Apparently You can see what is in my laptop? I uninstalled the flash player but I did not understand the display adapter instructions, The adapter details are as described in the "solution" but I am not sure what to do about it (if it is not supposed to be that). I told the system to search for an update and it responded it is the latest and greatest. Plus, I would be reluctant to disable the display adapter driver or uninstall it since that seems like I would be driving blind at that point.

I will not know if uninstalling the flash player ver 27 solved anything until the problem fails to appear (it hadn't happened for half a day anyway, before I uninstalled the flash player. I will not reinstall the ver 30 until something needing it pops up.

Will try the suggested ad blocker.

By the way, occasionally the laptop boots to a black screen and after forced power down, comes back on ok (most of the time).

Hi, Flash was as per the 1st word Separate from the issue. It is not going to solve anything ( most times).

If you uninstall your drivers Windows sticks in generic drivers so no your not going to be driving blind.

As for seeing whats on your computer the answer is no we can not. When you made the question you agreed to share data. This date is no more than your extensions that are installed and video card drivers which help us figure out what is going on.

I have no idea what drivers your using. you would have to google your what ever with make, model and it will tell you, look at your box it came in or instruction manual. If this is not a Microsoft product then you should not be running adapterDescription: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) with drivers from 2013, If you search for a update it searches for the above. Not the actual proper drivers.

As to your Yahoo issue what is going on ? Maybe give self a scan : https://www.malwarebytes.com/

The laptop is an HP Pavilion (Microsoft product?) So I am not sure about the driver being appropriate or not based on your response.

The problem occurred with the Yahoo mail window open only with the new tab being related to the right side ad that was displayed (probably as I didn't pay attention at first but the same advertiser was there when I started paying attention). I was just concerned about the new tab without selecting anything. I was not touching the keyboard or mouse when it reacted this way several times, sometimes immediately after exiting that tab. It has not done it since posting the issue.

I have scanned with Malwarebytes premium and also requested they react to this issue if it may be a malware based problem. They have not responded.
