Google search engine no longer works in v 56.0 even when set as default - why and how to fix ?

In the last few versions of Firefox (up to and including 56.0.2 64 bit), Google search engine refuses to load or work despite being set as the Default Search Engine in Settings. The only search engine I get is Yahoo, which I do not want. Have Firefox entered into some financial arrangement with Yahoo which excludes the use of any other search engines ? I have even bookmarked a tab as Google, however when I search on this 'proper' Google search page ...... the search result changes to Yahoo. As a user of Firefox for many years I shall be disappointed to leave this browser, but certainly will if no workaround is found to this issue.

Hi  ! No need to say 'Goodbye' to Firefox, but get rid of this browser hijacker instead : search.yahoo.com .....

Go to the 3-bar menu (or   'Tools') => Addons => Extensions and look for any unfamiliar or suspicious looking extensions, like e.g. :

SafeSearch Incognito SearchAssist Incognito Search for Fire Fox 1.6 SafeSearch ch SafeSearch net Converter.onesearch org File Convertor and Search Addon Findwide Search Engine 1.7

When you find any : remove them.

However :   most malware will be 'hiding' somewhere , so let's run malware scans :

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners.
They all work differently   -   what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.

Hi Happy112 Thanks for your quick and effective help ! I found Safe Search Incognito lurking in my Add-ons. Once it was removed I can now happily Google again !

Thank you very much for your help.
