I've reinstalled windows on my laptop and as I signed in to my Firefox account was all empty; no bookmarks, no passwords saved. How can I get all back?

To establish what has happened so far: you synced Firefox, then formatted, then reinstalled Windows, then installed Firefox, signed into Sync through main menu, clicked the sync activation button, but are not seeing anything in bookmarks and so on?

If you reset your password for your Firefox Account, your data was deleted. That seems to be the main cause for situations like yours that we encounter here.

That password is used to create the encryption keys which are used to encrypt your data while it is off of your devices. Change the password and your data is rendered useless - it can't be de-crypted. Plus that feature allows the user to clear their data from the Sync server for a fresh start or if the data is corrupted.

Plus, Sync was never intended to be used with a solitary device; to serve in lieu of a "hard backup" in cases of doing an OS re-format / re-installation. Sync is intended to "synchronize" data across multiple devices, where at least one device would have Firefox data should the user need to re-install the operating system.
