I keep getting adware attacks, both on my PC with windowsxp and my laptop with windows 7. I have adblock, firefall was refreshed. What will stop these attacks?

Things like optimizer pro automatically load themselves and make ad tabs pop up. I run adcleaner software and have adblock and ghostery as add-ons. What will stop this?? I also have a pc with windows 7 that I use windows explorer and i never have these issues. I'm thinking firefox may be more vulnerable...what the hell can I add-on? I'm getting really close to abandoning firefox

Chosen solution

Adblock Plus {web link} Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more. Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Sometimes a problem that may seem to be with Firefox could be caused by malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Hitman pro claimed it would do a one-time 30 day activation, if it found anything (and of course it did, after the microsoft software found nothing) then it wanted an activation key#, of course I didn't have one, I got an e-mail to respond to but thought better. So I am now leery of hitman pro, the microsoft scan said nothing was infected, but I got another adware strike while it ran. My pc seems ok, but this laptop with windows 7 is not ok, I'm going to try malwarebytes now. Still working on issues, not solved on laptop
