Ever since the update to version 26 I can't get the new private window to work. I go to file, open new private window and all that happens is another standard window opens. I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

If this doesn't solve this problem then you can try reinstalling firefox. This might help.

Thank you.

Hello ccpjr, check if you are in Private Browsing already, if you set in Privacy > Firefox will > Never remember history then you always start Firefox in Private Browsing and firefox won't have a purple Private Browsing mask.

thank you
