youtube videos and streams from other platforms always either stop completely or the video keeps running but the sound is off if i switch from speakers to headphone output (or the other way around).

if i stop the video befor i swtich speakers <-> headphone output this bug usually doesn't occure. workarounds that sometimes work (but not always) are refreshing the page, copy url and open in new tab. a lot of times the only way is to close firefox completely and launch it again.

i attempted to reproduce this with the microsoft edge browser but couldn't so i believe its a firefox related issue.

windows 10 Pro version 1709 firefox 57.0.4 sound blaster z

  • edit* this also occures if you switch the encoder to dolby digital live, dts connect or DTS Neo: PC.

This is a driver issue. This is a Driver and user issue not a FF problem-doing what your doing is what is causing the problem with FF. This isn't a bug it's a user knowledge of how devices work. I get this problem when just even on Windows itself it was causes Windows issue when it's not pause on the video or audio before disconnecting.

if it was a user/driver issue then why can i switch sound sources while having vlc player running or microsofts edge browser opened with a youtube video and don't get this issue?

Please uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.4 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

i've used disk cleanup aswell as ccleaner befor. i also want to note that i encountered this on a fresh install of windows 10 on a new hard drive with just the most necessary drivers installed + firefox. even after formating and doing another fresh win10 install + drivers and firefox this problem persists.

i've read that google chrome used to have similar issues but haven't checked myself if they still do (i prefer firefox), but i can confirm microsoft edge works fine as well as vlc media player.

just figured edge works fine just with youtube, other streaming platforms have similar issues as firefox while switching sound encoders or output from speaker <-> headphone.
