I am in the process of moving from my Windows XP Desktop to a windows 10 Desktop. I admittedly prefer Firefox version 28, just because so far everything I use primarily uses it, however windows 10 does have a strange hatred of using Firefox 28 properly with adobe flash. Not sure why. Later versions have no issue, however. So since I only use adobe flash for crunchyroll and occasionally youtube, and because there are still likely to be websites out there not designed to handle later versions of firefox (whether because they were made a long time ago or whatever) I've been trying to figure out how to create multiple profiles so I can run more than one version of Firefox (or even the licensed Waterfox or Seamonkey variants), but the only info I've been able to see about this from other people's questions about migrating stuff is largely technical and I'm not a technology savvy guy. I want to get my old data off my old desktop and put it on the new machine, but I also want to be able to retain my sites on each profile so that any new versions of Firefox will retain my data, but won't all open the same profile, which is an issue I've noticed when I tried to install Waterfox so I could use that for Crunchyroll while using Firefox 28 for pretty much everything else. (I would have instalkled a later version of firefox, but I didn't know how to do that in a way that wouldn't replace 28, and waterfox apparently uses the same profile data anyway.) I need a simple, straightforward and easy to understand way to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

SeaMonkey will use its own Profile which is stored in a different place that where Firefox Profiles are stored.

If migrating data supp[ort thread are beyond your technology savvy, forget about dealing with multiple different versions of Firefox and multiple Profiles as it would be way over your head. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2821799

You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to customize the appearance and restore features used in older Firefox versions.

  • You can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.
  • You can find extra toolbar buttons and more toolbar settings in Customize (3-bar Firefox menu button > Customize)

I'm aware of Classic Theme Restorer. In fact I tried it at one point on a later version of Firefox on 10, and it did not work properly. More specifically, it refused to load onto the browser. I had no problems using it with Waterfox though, which is more than a little odd.

However again, my biggest issue is in getting my old bookmarks and settings and everything transferred over. I am slowly backing up my old machine for transfer of my files to the new laptop. This is one of the last things I need to do. I also wanted to be able to run the older firefox if possible as a separate version of the program from the more up to date version in case it was necessary. Otehrwise I'd have just jumped to Waterfox, since it seems to be the only version willing to work with Classic Theme restorer. I am not tech savvy. I have looked up info on how to move profiles and all, but trying to get all this done in one go is...difficult, at best....because I keep having to go through one page or another, and I get confused as to what I'm supposed to do to what aspect of the downloads and when and how. I just need a straightforward explanation of how to do this in one singular place.
