Today I got on my laptop and opened Firefox like I do every day. The browser looked different. It was an ugly purple color. A window showed me information about 'Profiles'. I didn't want any 'Profiles', I just wanted my regular Firefox Browser. So I deleted the Profiles. This also ended up deleting all of my bookmarks and passwords!! It took the last two hours and working with AI to recover my most recent backup which was two years old. Firefox hasn't been backing up any of my data that I actually need, and it actively deleted the things I rely on. Your devs and designers really messed up on this one. I bet no one uses Profiles, but everyone uses passwords and bookmarks to some degree. Why would you build it like that?! Shame, Mozilla. This was a serious error on your part. Bad product design. Make it easier to back up the things we need. Get rid of this useless 'Profiles' function that I bet no one uses.

I'm having a connectivity issues. Did some searching which directed me to the Appdata Profiles folder. When looking inside I see Mail and ImapMail. Both have numerous folders inside. Too may I believe. Based upon the screen prints of the folder's contents, do you see conflicts?

I have three email addresses with Outlook.com.

Pop.windstream I have not used in many years. Not sure what others I could possible delete.

Thanks.

Thunderbird has started acting as if it is the first time being opened after entering in all account info. All the folders expand down the left side (as if it's just finding them for the first time) and all email is re-downloaded.

Thunderbird is up-to-date using 151.0.1 on Microsoft Windows 11.

I have setup the same accounts in Microsoft Outlook, the issue is not happening in Outlook.

The email server is Ubuntu Linux, Postfix, Dovecot.

How do I change a profile folder's name without causing any problems? I'm on a Mac.

I know I can change a profile's name for internal Firefox use (by going to about:profiles in the URL address section of the browser), but the cryptic folder names remain the same. I've read that you should never change a profile folder's name directly (inside ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/), so is there another way?

I run both the standard version of Firefox and the developer edition on the same computer, so it would be nice to immediately see which profile folder belongs to which Firefox version by their names.

I have used the new and old profile system, and I use Firefox Nightly. On one of my profiles I am unable to delete profiles created with the new profile system.

When I use Manage profiles and click the delete icon I get about:deleteprofile but clicking the Delete button nothing happens. The display doesn't change, no message appears in the browser console, and the profile doesn't get deleted.

This is running Firefox Nightly 153.0a1. When I use Firefox 151 on the same system (different profile) the delete works fine. When I use the same version of Firefox Nightly on a different system about:deleteprofile works fine.

Both computers are running Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. The new profiles don't show up in about:profiles. I now have several profiles I can't delete following the instructions from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-management#w_delete-a-profile . Most of them I created, closed the window, and immediately tried to delete.

Following the instructions from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1572980 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2000125#c4 I looked at the toolkit.profiles.storeID preference. The preference is the same in the child profiles as in the original profile.

I tried starting the original profile in Troubleshoot Mode. That had no effect on the behavior.

All I want to do is open Firefox and go to my default page. Okay?

The Issue: I want to copy all bookmarks/Logins/PW from original into two additional already created but not used Profiles. Hence, I have created 3 desired profiles.

I want to copy into each profile the "Original" Bookmarks/Logins/PW nothing else matters to me, i can go to each profile and modify its settings after that and I have read the device Sync considerations.

At this stage, do I abandon the already created 2 additional Profiles and follow the Copy to New Profile procedures outlined in FAQs?

The benefit to my current state is I could copy in "Original" Bookmarks/Logins/PWs to the newly create profiles that are vacant I could then go into each profile to delete the non-relevant data.'

I have read the FAQ differences for Containers vs Profiles and still feel Profiles is best for me. I have also read Sync and the associated threads in FAQ. I have also read Copy from "Original" profile but it seems to apply when creating a Profile.

In the Original profil, I have three Bookmark sub-folders and over 200 bookmarks, plus over 480 Login/PWs. I wanted something like Profiles feature, to put my personal (PW, Bookmarks & Logins) into its own areas' Profile. The use case is Original I use for learning, Personal for banking and medical, the 3rd I have setup one Not For Profit Organization Profile. Each has relevant bookmarks/Logins.PW.

So I created my Profiles. Then realized the PW/Bookmarks/Logins are truly separated.

I've used thunderbird for years. Now I can't get it back. I tried a clean uninstall/reinstall. Downloaded from the thunderbird site. Seems to install fine, but then says no profile recognized. I put some old profiles in the appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles in desperation, but still no luck. My clean uninstall did involve registry entries (Revo-Uninstall). So I'd like to get a clean start with Thunderbird, but it won't let me. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I dread the idea of using another email after all these years!

I'm a bit puzzled here. Initially, I tried to use the new built-in VPN for only a single domain. That doesn't work at all. Until it does, I tried to get it through other ways. Containers don't work, private windows neither, they both just inherit the global VPN setting.

So I moved on to profiles. The web found me a Mozilla support topic that suggested to open about:profiles and create a new one. Did that, opened a window for it, but couldn't get it to reopen on any easy path, just through opening about:profiles and clicking one of the many buttons again.

Then I found another description that used the "Profiles" menu. Never seen that before (probably because the menu bar isn't visible by default). Created a new profile there, too, and opened it. After restarting Firefox, all was gone! My original profile with everything was totally inaccessible, like a full data loss. Google search AI in a Chrome browser helped me out and explained what I need to do (in about:profiles, select the old one as default, then restart) to get my environment back. After that I deleted all newly created profiles and then their directories again.

Started over with a new "new" profile and continued there. Now I wanted to activate the VPN in there. It asked me to log in again, which was a good sign because finally I got a Firefox window that didn't know about the other window. But then the next failure: I couldn't log in with my credentials because that profile was already used in the other window/profile. Again, they're not completely separated from each other and there's some hidden link between them.

So, do I need a new Firefox/Mozilla account only for a separate Firefox profile? I can happily use my one account on different devices but not on the same device? Can I unlink the main profile from my account again? I don't see a logout button anywhere, I'm just logged in invisibly.

I just installed a new router and all of a sudden nothing is working properly on my PC. Among other things, I need to fix Thunderbird, and for that I need to find where my thunderbird profile is. The instructions I've seen say to go to troubleshooting information, find profile folder, and click on "open folder." When I do that, nothing happens. (I told you installing the router appears to have broken everything--I don't know how that happened, especially since I was on the phone with tech support for the router for install), and I'm no closer to finding the profile file. I can enter %appdata%\roaming\thunderbird\profiles but that shows me two different profile directories and I don't know which one is the right one. How can I find the correct file and why doesn't troubleshooting information just show me that?
