Even though I've never changed my settings aside from the first time I changed them to my preferred settings, for whatever reason, Firefox no longer opens links I tap on in external apps. I changed the settings to do it that way the very first time and it worked fine up until a little while ago. Now, the only way it opens a link in the external app when I tap on it, is if I tap and hold, and then choose that option in the pop-up menu. As I said, in the settings it IS set to open links in external apps, but it doesn't do it anymore.

Sometimes, when opening a link in a new tab, the page does not load and only a blank white screen is displayed. To make the page actually load, I have to manually tap the address bar and press the "Go" button on the virtual keyboard.

In other cases, when the link is supposed to be opened in an external app (for example, a social media app or a banking app), the hang occurs without even showing a new blank tab. In this case, there is no address bar available, so it becomes impossible to fix the issue manually.

smb://u1:p1@192.168.7.2/11/22/file.mp4

This type of local smb/samba url not directly opening in external app anymore.

It was opening directly in external app last month.

Why not directly opening anymore?

It does open directly in external app inside chrome browser for Android.

Please fix this issue for Firefox for Android or atleast give option to enable this for a specific web address.

I'm having this annoying issue where I search up something and click on a result, the tab reloads and then i gotta click the result again to open it... I've had it happen on two devices (Samsung Galaxy note 10+ and Samsung Galaxy S25) with no apparent fix.

Example, I search up Nintendo and the website shows up, I click on it but it doesn't open the website, it will reload the tab so then I gotta click on it once again.

Using Samsung A53 and Samsung A54, Firefox version 142.0.1 on Android. Both phones have the same symptoms. 1 Device is logged into a Mozilla account, the other is not.

When clicking a link that is supposed to open an app (for example my payment provider), it works the first time during a session. When I try to open it again, nothing happens.

I tried toggling the setting to always open or ask. This resets the mechanism and it works again for the first time. After that I have to toggle the setting again to make it work. Stopping the app and clearing cache will resolve the issue once. After that it stops working again.

It used to work a few weeks again, so I suspect an update broke the mechanism.

I play a game called WSOP, and the game have Facebook page and Facebook group that is giving free staff for the game. In the past the past the links open the game app I got the free stuff, but know the links are opening the Google shop website and not the app. I already set Firefox the open links on app, and it not working. If I open the links on the Desktop version of Firefox the open the game website version. If I open the links from email message I post the links in it the links opens the game app when I open email on my cellphone. Only on Firefox for Android the links are not working. how can I fix this? I don't want to copy paste links or use the Facebook app (it is horrible) Thanks for help.

This is the exact same issue Firefox has on iOS as well, described here: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/issues/28421

It happens for me as well: Android 15, Firefox 142.0.1 (Build #2016110943), All extensions disabled and Firefox stopped and started again. Sometimes it works. Strangely. But it is not related to my connection type (Wifi or mobile network).

I have "always open in external apps" enabled.

I use an external torrent app LibreTorrent. When I click on magnet links, FF133 faithfully opens the external app handler. However when I tap the OK button FF very often ignores my tapping. I can hit several times with no effect. I can see a quick circle showing as I tap, so the tap is generating an event, but FF does not react to it. This happens in normal and private mode. Sometimes after a couple or perhaps a dozen or more taps, the OK event has an effect and the external app launches fine.

A very curiously I accidentally noticed that if I tap or swipe the text also showing on the dialog box before tapping OK, the first tap on OK always works! 100% reliable. Something is fishy with event handling.

Repro: FF133 + current LibreTorrent client, then tap of first magnet link at https://webtorrent.io/free-torrents
